12.2.3 Policy waste disposal - hazardous materials(2024)

MCUT has formed the “Safety, Health and Toxicity and Chemical Substances of Concern Management Committee” to manage laboratory waste and toxic chemicals, and set up the “Campus Hazardous Waste Management System” and the “Regulations for Laboratory Management” to properly control the operational status and quantity of the waste. The campus hazardous waste mainly comes from laboratory waste liquids, classified according to their characteristics into acids, alkalis, non-hazardous mixed waste liquids, halogen-containing organic waste chemicals, and non-halogen-containing organic waste chemicals. Waste liquids are stored at the temporary storage site, equipped with storage cabinets, gas detection systems, and explosion-proof exhaust equipment. MCUT’s laboratory waste liquids temporarily stored are entrusted to a qualified removal operator to be transported to the premises approved by the government for proper disposal.
