Goals and Vision

Promoting the sustainable development of the university and achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations have become the important issues in governance of university affairs.  In order to demonstrate the university’s determination to promote sustainable development, and implement fulfillment of the social responsibility of sustainable development, Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) particularly established the Sustainable Development Office.  This Office is a dedicated unit to coordinate and integrate the relevant businesses of sustainable development promotion in the university.  Meanwhile, MCUT also established the Sustainable Development Promotion Committee, so as to effectively promote integration of the work teams across the administrative and teaching units. By doing so, both action and execution force of MCUT are strengthened.

I.  Sustainable Development Office (SDO):  The posts of Chief Sustainability Officer and Director are established.  They are concurrently served by the Vice-President of MCUT and the Director of the Institutional Research Center respectively.  They are responsible for managing different affairs of SDO, integrating and coordinating the administrative supports among different departments and offices of MCUT, linking and putting in the related research and teaching resources to the research centers at different levels, colleges and the General Education Center.  The job duties of SDO are as follows:

  1. Plan the goals, strategies and action plans of sustainable development.
  2. Integrate the Sustainability Report, Social Responsibility Report and green university.
  3. Strengthen the integration of sustainable development into teaching, research, university governance and social services.
  4. Coordinate the various plans, and establish a sustainable development team to be responsible for implementing the action plans.
  5. Internally coordinate the administrative and teaching units, promote sustainable campus governance; and externally assist and participate in the social sustainability work, and exert positive influence on society.

II.  Sustainable Development Promotion Committee:  The Chairman of the Committee, concurrently served by the President of MCUT, shall effectively promote integration of the work teams across the administrative and teaching units.  By doing so, both action force and execution force of MCUT are strengthened.  The job duties of the Committee are as follows:

  1. Set the goals and strategies of sustainable development.
  2. Assess the action plans of sustainable development, and review their effectiveness.
  3. Approve integration of the sustainable development work teams across different units.
