Green University

In order to implement sustainable management and development, and promote a diverse ecosystem in school, MCUT established the “Campus Greening and Beautification Committee” as early as in 2005.  In 2007 this Committee and the “Energy-Saving Execution Team” were merged into the “Campus Greening and Energy-Saving Promotion Committee”.  In 2008 the sustainable development practices of MCUT were compiled as White Paper on Campus Sustainability.  In May 2009 the “Campus Greening and Energy-Saving Promotion Committee” was renamed the “Green University Promotion Committee”.  This Committee continues to promote the reconstruction tasks for green university, and provide consultation on the related affairs.

On December 2, 2013 the Green University Union of Taiwan was approved by the Ministry of the Interior for its registration, and MCUT is one of the member universities.  On December 19, 2014 MCUT officially signed the Talloires Declaration, pledging to work together to co-create a green university and a sustainable campus.  In the future, we shall employ the concept of sustainable green management to promote work relating to green university.  We shall also increase cross-university and interdisciplinary collaboration, and share the relevant information with other universities.

In 2016 MCUT was awarded the “New Taipei City Low-Carbon Campus Medal: Silver Goose Medal Certificate” by Department of Environmental Protection, New Taipei City Government.  In 2020, MCUT, with its performance reviewed and evaluated, was promoted to a higher level, achieving the Golden Bear Certificate.  In 2019-2021 MCUT was awarded the “Green Procurement Excellence” trophy by Department of Environmental Protection, New Taipei City Government.

In 2021 MCUT was ranked 262nd in green university ranking (among 956 university participants in the world, reaching 27.4%).  In 2020 MCUT was ranked the 307th in green university ranking (among 912 university participants in the world, reaching 34%).  This ranking result was better than that in 2019, in which MCUT was ranked the 296th (among 780 university participants in the world, reaching 38%).  In 2021, the installation of solar power generation system on the roofs of some buildings in the campus was completed.  Such an investment cost about NT$24 million, increasing the proportion of green energy on campus.
