Development Mission and Vision

Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) is run based on its original intentions of contributing to the society, and giving back to the society.  The basic mission of MCUT is to cultivate talents needed by the country and industries.  In order to take into account both learning of professional theories and learning from industrial practices, and cultivate students with hardworking and simple spiritual characteristics, the founders of MCUT have dedicated corporate resources to education, and provided students with work-study and internship opportunities.  In this way, students can receive remuneration from work-study jobs and internship, reduce the financial burden on their families, and finally complete their studies successfully.  They not only are cultivated to possess the ability to be independent, but also are trained to have the habits of being hardworking and frugal.  Up to now, the internship units have been expanded to different industries at home and even abroad.  Our students’ performance has been generally recognized by the industries.  This policy has effectively shortened the gap between university education and enterprise employment, achieving the goal of integrating education with production in technical and vocational education.

Since 2018, the post of Managing Director of MCUT has been taken over by Mr. Wen-Yuan Wang, the president of Formosa Plastics Corporation.  He feels that modern technology is progressing rapidly after witnessing the launch of artificial intelligence (AI), self-driving cars, quantum computers, etc.  Universities are the cradle for cultivating the future talents of a country.  In the industrial environment of knowledge economy, university education must follow technological development, and keep pace with technology in the teaching field.  The social mission of the universities of science and technology is even more important than in the past.  Universities must transform their original cultivation and teaching field of talents to be universities of science and technology, which must pay equal attention to teaching, scientific and technological research, as well as university-industry collaboration.  Therefore, MCUT positions itself as a “university-industry-R&D-oriented university of technology”.  Apart from continuing to promote holistic education for a balanced development of the students’ bodies, minds and spirits, MCUT also has to focus on knowledge innovation, university-industry R&D, practical application, as well as increase in offering practical technology and novel knowledge. By doing so, the demands from industrial and economic development in the country can be met, and the due value of the university’s talent think tank can be exerted.  Students should possess a scientific spirit of getting to the bottom of things and acquiring knowledge from studying the nature of things.  They should break through boundaries of knowledge, innovate knowledge, apply value-added knowledge to the industries, and contribute to the country and society.  Then MCUT changed its original “mission” of “talent cultivation” to be the goal of a university of science and technology — to “combine talent cultivation with knowledge innovation”.

MCUT adheres to the founders’ vision and goal of “running the best university”.  Following MCUT’s mission and school-running philosophy, the vision of MCUT is “Students shall become the most favored talents in the industries and the top employees for enterprises”.  For the vision of “talent cultivation”, it is mainly to train the graduates of MCUT to become “the most favored talents in the industries”.  It can be fulfilled through innovative teaching activities, student on-campus accommodation, work-study practices and internship, college counseling and liberal arts education.  And for the vision of “knowledge innovation”, it emphasizes the scientific spirit of getting to the bottom of things as well as being pragmatic and practical.   Based on the needs of the industries, knowledge innovation and R&D should be strengthened, so as to establish a unique R&D center and team with distinctive features.  They shall link the practical needs, and strengthen the university-industry collaboration and technology application.  Hopefully, the students in the R&D team of MCUT shall become the “top employees of all enterprises”.
