publish date : 2025-03-13

At the end of 2024, President Thu-Hua Liu of Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) led a delegation of university administrators and faculty members on a New Southbound Education Delegation to Vietnam. The delegation visited several top-tier universities in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, including the University of Economics and Finance (UEF), Van Lang University (VLU), Dai Nam University (DNU), Hoa Binh University (HBU), and Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI). This visit not only resulted in multiple academic cooperation agreements but also laid a strong foundation for the promotion of integrated bachelor's-master’s programs and dual-degree undergraduate programs between MCUT and its Vietnamese partner institutions.

During the visit to UEF in Ho Chi Minh City, the delegation was warmly welcomed by the university leadership. Both parties held in-depth discussions on artificial intelligence and data science, exploring potential future research collaborations and planning a short-term exchange program for students in 2025. Meanwhile, MCUT also signed a dual-degree undergraduate program agreement with VLU, aiming to develop talent in industrial design through joint faculty initiatives.

Following their engagements in the south, the delegation traveled north to Hanoi, further strengthening ties with DNU. The two universities worked on aligning curricula in industrial engineering management and logistics & supply chain management, allowing more outstanding Vietnamese students to pursue dual-degree undergraduate studies in Taiwan and earn official degrees from MCUT. At HBU, MCUT signed a 3+2 integrated bachelor's-master’s program agreement, which enables students to complete three years of undergraduate studies in Vietnam before continuing their master’s degree at MCUT. The President of HBU also expressed high expectations for deepening collaboration in green energy and artificial intelligence and announced plans to send faculty members to MCUT for academic exchanges and research collaborations in 2025.

At HaUI, both institutions jointly planned technical and innovation-focused courses covering mechatronics, electronics, and green energy. They also finalized a framework for implementing a dual-degree undergraduate program and short-term internship opportunities. Additionally, both universities planned faculty exchange programs to enhance innovation in technical and vocational education.

President Liu emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening educational cooperation with Vietnamese universities. According to 2023 statistics from New Taipei City, there were 115,873 new immigrants (including individuals from China, Hong Kong, and Macau), among whom Vietnamese nationals accounted for 20,396—the largest group. This demographic trend highlights the significance of fostering Taiwan-Vietnam university collaborations to cultivate future international talent.

The delegation’s visit to Vietnam yielded remarkable outcomes, demonstrating MCUT’s leadership in global education cooperation. Looking ahead, MCUT eagerly anticipates working hand-in-hand with universities across Vietnam to create a new paradigm for global education, fostering deeper academic and cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Vietnam.
